Cachemire

Care guide

Cachemire

Cashmere isn’t just luxurious; it’s quietly transformative. Feather-light yet warm, this rare wool brings unmatched softness and ease. With its refined texture and natural breathability, cashmere is as muchabout comfort as it is about timeless appeal.

How to wash your cashmere item?

First of all, your cashmere item doesn’t need to be washed every time you’ve worn it. Make sure it gets enough rest after each wear and be mindful whenever you wear it:

  • Do not wear the same garment too frequently, allow the garment to rest a few days after a day’s wear.
  • Additionally, you can air it out or quickly steam it to keep it smelling fresh between uses.
  • Do not wear cashmere next to rougher clothing, sharp or metal objects, belts, bracelets and so on.

1. Hand wash

A cold-water hand wash is advised for delicate knits such as cashmere.

  • Use a mild detergent, without bleach or enzymes
  • Do not agitate or wring the item, be gentle - Avoid lifting the item out of the washing bowl as the weight of the water can stretch and distort the weave
  • Get rid of excess water by carefully folding the item and pressing it gently in an empty sink

2. Machine wash

Please make sure you check the care label to see if machine washing is allowed. If it is, please note that we still recommend hand washing because the cashmere’s contact with water is more limited and there will be no spinning.

  • Usually, you’ll only be allowed to use wool or hand wash cycle.
  • Always use a mild detergent, without bleach or enzymes
  • Too much agitation damages cashmere, so always use a slow cycle
  • Careful when you lift the item out of the machine, the weight of the water can stretch and distort the weave

How to dry a cashmere item?

For a delicate fabric like cashmere, drying it correctly is crucial:

  • First, remove excess water by rolling it up between two dry towels, gently pressing and squeeze to remove excess water
  • Air dry flat on a grill, away from direct heat and sunlight

How to iron your cashmere?

Iron the item inside out, using a cool iron and a damp cloth to protect the cashmere item.

How to store your cashmere?

  • Make sure your cashmere is completely dry before storing, to avoid attracting moths
  • Preferably store flat, in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight
  • Additionally, you can use a breathable knit and cashmere storage bag
  • If you want to hang your cashmere item, use rubber hangers or hangers with rubber ends to avoid the item slipping off

How to deal with stains on your cashmere item?

  • To remove stains from cashmere, act quickly and gently. Treat the stains with a wool-friendly detergent, or a solution of water and mild soap (like baby shampoo). Blot, don’t rub.
  • For grease stains, we recommend using Terre de Sommières (which is an ultra-fine, highly absorbent clay used as a dry stain remover).

How to remove pilling from a cashmere item?

With wear, you’re likely to see the appearance of small pills or bobbles. These usually occur through friction, so you’ll find them under the arms, at the lower back and other areas that are exposed to friction. We advise you to de-pill cashmere (and other woolen items) with a simple knitwear comb.

How to prevent moths from plaguing your cashmere item?

Store your cashmere, wool, and delicate natural fibers properly to keep them safe from dust, mold, direct light, and moths.

A few tips:

  • Before storing a cashmere item, make sure it’s 100% clean and dry. Food residues and skin cells attract moths.
  • If your cashmere item needs dry cleaning, do it before storing as moths dislike dry cleaning fluid.
  • Fold cashmere neatly, and if possible, use a zip-up storage bag.
  • Use scented essential oils or cedar wood blocks to repel moths and protect your clothes; moths dislike the smell.
  • If you think you have clothes moths, make sure you vacuum and treat any storage area before you put clothes away.
