Mohair

Care guide

Mohair

Mohair is a natural fiber made from the hair of the Angora goat, prized for its silky texture and natural sheen. It’s soft yet strong, offering lightweight warmth without being bulky. Mohair adds an elegant touch to garments while remaining breathable and comfortable to wear.

How to care for your mohair item?

First of all, your mohair item doesn’t need to be washed every time you’ve worn it. Only clean or wash it when it gets soiled.

 • Do not wear the same garment too frequently, allow it to rest a few days after a day’s wearing.
 • Additionally, you can air it out or quickly steam it to keep it smelling fresh between uses.
 • Do not wear mohair next to rougher clothing, sharp or metal objects, belts, bracelets and so on.
 • Only use hand wash and always dry flat. No machine washing or tumble dryer.

When you need to wash your mohair item, please do as follows:

Here’s a step-by-step guide:

 • Fill the sink or bathtub with lukewarm water.
 • Use a specialized knitwear detergent, with a pH neutral composition.
 • Submerge your mohair item in the water and gently stir to disperse the detergent.
 • Push down on it & gently squeeze, use the same action as if you were kneading dough. Continue to do this all over the entire item. Do not wring, twist or pull.
 • Let the water out of the sink or bathtub and refill with clean water, press down & gently squeeze the item, as before. Do not wring, twist or pull.
 • Let the water out of the sink or tub.
 • Press down on the item to remove the excess water. Do not twist or wring.
 • Lay the item flat between two dry and clean towels. Gently roll and squeeze to remove excess water.

How to dry your mohair item?

For a delicate fabric like mohair, drying it correctly is crucial:

 • Never tumble-dry your mohair item, this will destroy and shrink the fibers.
 • Air dry flat on a grill, so the item can breather, away from direct heat and sunlight.

How to iron your mohair item?

 • It is best to avoid ironing your mohair item, as this can damage and deform the fibers.
 • If you really need to, it is advised to use a steam iron from a safe distance, and to avoid touching the mohair item directly.

How to deal with stains on your mohair item?

For easy strains: wait for the stain to dry, before scrubbing off with a gentle brush. If the stain does not come out, soak the item in water with a mild detergent for 20-30 minutes.

For harder or specific stain types, please consult a dry-cleaning expert.

How to remove pilling from a mohair item?

With wear, you’re likely to see the appearance of small pills or bobbles. These usually occur through friction, so you’ll find them under the arms, at the lower back and other areas that are exposed to friction. We advise you to de-pill mohair (and other woolen items) with a simple knitwear brush or comb.

Avoid using razors or other sharp objects, as these can damage the delicate fibers.

How to store your mohair item?

Store your mohair, wool, and other delicate natural fibers properly to keep them safe from dust, mold, direct light, and moths.

A few tips:

 • Before storing a mohair item, make sure it’s 100% clean and dry. Food residues and skin cells attract moths.
 • If your mohair item needs dry cleaning, do it before storing as moths dislike dry cleaning fluid.
 • We recommend using cedar wood or essential oils to keep moths away.
 • Fold the item neatly, and if possible, use a zip-up storage bag.
 • If you think you have clothes moths, make sure you vacuum and treat any storage area before you put clothes away.
