Bellerose Factory Visits Vol. 1

Behind the Seams

Since 1989, we’ve embraced denim as a core part of our identity. As a brand that strongly values high-quality materials, durability, and authentic craftsmanship, we’ve always understood that denim has never been just a trend – it’s a commitment to timeless style. For Vol. 1 of our new series of Factory Visits, we wanted to give you a peek into where and how our denim is made.

Our denim collections for both women and men feature a variety of styles, from slim fits to super wide legs, classic straight cuts to worker-inspired designs. Each piece combines comfort with a flattering fit, ensuring that there’s something for everyone. At Bellerose, denim is the fabric of who we are – versatile, enduring, and stylish.

For a long time now, we’ve been working with a trusted factory in Tunisia that’s renowned for its craftsmanship and sustainable practices. Each pair of jeans is crafted with precision, ensuring both quality and longevity. By partnering with experts who share the brand’s commitment to authenticity and ethical production, we want to ensure a range of denim that’s built to last while staying true to the brand's values.

We could go on and on about denim, its incredible history, and its endless list of qualities all day – believe us. But since we’re putting the spotlight on the place where our denim is made, we thought we’d ask some questions to someone with 25+ years of experience in the denim game; meet Dirk, the general manager of our Tunisian factory.

Hi Dirk! Do you remember how you first got into contact with Bellerose as a customer? How would you describe the evolution between both partners?

The first person I spoke to was one of the former menswear designers, back when we started making chinos for Bellerose. Afterwards, we went on to produce all kinds of denim and streetwear styles as well. The emphasis has always been on quality fabrics and washings. It’s been a smooth ride since then, I can’t say we ever had any issues working together. I guess that’s why we became Bellerose’s biggest denim supplier.

There is an enormous denim offer out there. How would you say Bellerose differs from other brands like Levi’s and Lee? What makes us stand out?

I personally love Bellerose. The fits, the fabrics, the simplicity – there’s a certain class in that straightforward approach which makes the brand easy to wear for young and old. I did notice some of the styles and washings have gotten bolder, and an increase in the use of recycled fabrics as well.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about denim in your opinion?

Well, a lot of people thinkjeans are a basic product, but it takes an enormous amount of time and energy to make a good looking pair. Especially to get the washing and colourjust right. The choice of fabrics is crucial, and that’s something Bellerose has figured out.I personally think it’s smarter to pay a bit more for a pair of quality jeans that you can wear for years, it’s only going to look better with time anyway. That’s why I prefer unwashed denim myself. I can wear a pair of those for 6, 7 or more years, as it gradually changes and fades until someday it becomes unwearable.
