Choosing a coat by season

The right outerwear depends on the season and temperature. In winter, a longline wool coat or a lined parka provides the insulation needed for cold days. In the transitional seasons (March-April and September-October), a cotton trench coat or a blazer over a knit is enough. In spring, an overshirt or a lightweight jacket worn open replaces the coat entirely. 

Layering extends the use of each piece: a blazer under a trench coat, or a quilted bodywarmer over a thick knit, covers the variations of a changeable day without having to switch outerwear.

Wool, cotton and denim

The fabric determines warmth, drape and care requirements:

Wool and wool-blend: warm and fluid, the reference for longline coats and blazers in autumn-winter.

Cotton canvas: light and breathable, used for trench coats and overshirts in the transitional season.

Fits: from the cropped jacket to the longline coat

Lengths range from the cropped jacket (hip length) to the longline coat (ankle length), with mid-thigh and knee-length options in between. The oversized fit, with dropped shoulders and generous volume, is worn in the usual size and balanced with a fitted bottom half. Caring for a wool coat

A wool coat should be brushed regularly with a natural-bristle brush to remove surface dirt and prevent pilling. Store it on a wide coat hanger, away from light and moisture, or fold it flat for heavier wool pieces. 

Most Bellerose wool coats are dry-clean only; check the care label before machine washing. Wearing knitwear underneath reduces direct contact with the wool lining and extends the time between cleans.
