Cityscape: São Paulo

Born in Brazil in 1988, Alexandre Furcolin is a visual artist and photographer who has been living and working in São Paulo since 2005. After falling in love with his photographic book SAO PAULO for the Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye Collection, we asked him to show us around his city.

Batteries fully charged and far from feeling tired after an exhilarating night in the vibrant underground electronic scene, I’m not going home. It’s early, very early. But the mixture of traffic, constructions and birds’ sounds can already be heard in the background. Escaping this urban symphony and filling my lungs with fresh air seems like the perfect idea.

I go to my cherished spot, the top apartments of ‘Edificio Copan’. It’s Oscar Niemeyer’s most emblematic building, the view of the city is truly indescribable. Unsurprisingly, the rain starts to fall, it rains a lot here and it’s probably a subtle sign that I need to get back to bed. To prepare myself for sleep, I tune in to Philip Glass’s Mad Rush on the way home. The familiar and weirdly pleasing smell of water evaporating from asphalt fills the city. I’m where I need to be, in the heart of this metropolis.
