Care guide

Jewelry

Jewellery may be the smallest part of your outfit, but it makes the biggest statement. Whether it’s bold or minimal, silver or gold-toned, your pieces deserve some care to keep their shine. Here’s how to treat them right.

How to take care of your jewellery

Jewellery is often delicate by nature, and daily wear can take a toll. With a few simple habits, you can keep your favourites looking fresh for years to come.

  • Avoid contact with water, lotions, perfumes or chemicals — they can tarnish or dull your pieces.
  • Remove jewellery before sleeping, exercising or showering.
  • Be extra careful with plated or costume jewellery, as it’s more sensitive than solid metals.
  • Put on your jewellery after dressing to avoid snagging or damage.

How to clean jewellery

Even the most low-maintenance pieces need a quick refresh every now and then.

  • Use a soft, dry cloth to gently polish your jewellery after each wear.
  • For deeper cleans, use lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap — but only for solid metal or durable stones.
  • Never soak delicate or plated items.
  • Use a soft brush (like a clean toothbrush) to get into crevices. Gently!
  • Dry immediately with a soft cloth to prevent spots or watermarks.

How to dry jewellery

Jewellery should always be dried with care, especially after cleaning or accidental contact with moisture.

  • Gently pat dry with a clean, lint-free cloth.
  • Air drying is fine but make sure pieces are completely dry before storing.
  • Avoid using paper towels, they can scratch the surface.

How to store jewellery

Proper storage helps prevent tarnish, scratches, and tangles. Even at home.

  • Store each piece separately to avoid scratching or tangling.
  • Use soft pouches or lined jewellery boxes.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and humidity. Bathrooms are not ideal.
  • Travel tip: use a small zip pouch or pill case to separate pieces on the go.

How to deal with tarnish or dullness

It’s natural for jewellery to lose a bit of its shine over time. Here's what you can do.

  • Use a jewellery polishing cloth to revive shine, especially for silver-tone pieces.
  • Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, especially on plated or costume jewellery.
  • For gold-tone jewellery, a gentle cloth is usually all you need.
  • For persistent tarnish, take the piece to a professional cleaner.

Extra tips & tricks

The little things that make a big difference in how your jewellery holds up.

  • Rotate your pieces to reduce wear, meaning: don’t wear the same piece every day.
  • Don’t wear jewellery in the pool, sea, or sauna (chlorine, salt and heat are not your friends).
  • Avoid tossing jewellery into bags or pockets — it leads to tangling and scratching.
  • Lost a back of an earring? Keep a few spares in your jewellery box.
  • When in doubt, less is more. Better to store it safely than risk damaging it.
